Second Piano Sonata “Liturgical” has many themes based on plainchant and church music.
- Song of Praise is based on the Magnificat – My Soul Doth Magnify.
- Veni Creator Spiritus (Come Creator Spirit) – Ethereal meditation on the plainchant set over invariable chord progression.
- Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) – Rather sardonic setting of the Dies Irae. Follows the chant “religiously” in melody of main section, then in the running accompaniment of second section. Includes image of source chant.
- The Dream/ In Paradisum – A joyous piece that describes my dream of family and love, with opening theme, which is presented in variation format, and an interlude based on In Paradisum plainchant.
