About Me:

A self-avowed romantic, James D. Matthews strives to create music that will draw from the great classical/romantic tradition, yet be relevant to our time.  He studied Piano Performance and Composition at the College of William and Mary under Claudia Stevens and Edgar Williams, respectively, graduating in 1984.  He had further studies with Paul Mathews (no relation) of the Peabody Conservatory. A retired physician, he lives in Roanoke, Virginia where his creative pursuits now include several children, a couple grandchildren, two cats and a dog, and a Yamaha grand piano.
